This week: 87’ winner
THE PLAYER: Neymar Jr
A lot has been said about the ex-Barcelona man, but he remains a precious piece in the PSG puzzle. The strike in Lyon was his 36th for the Ligue 1 Conforama club and added to his 20 assists, it means he has been involved in 56 goals in just 39 top-flight outings in France.
Love him or hate him, Neymar is doing exactly what PSG pay him the big bucks to do.
What happened In Lyon’s Match?
PSG headed to the home of their great rivals in buoyant mood following their commanding 3-0 win over Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League in midweek. It was the sort of performance that must have given the French champions hope they could improve on a record of just three wins in 25 visits to Lyon, who had been held 1-1 by Zenit St. Petersburg in their group-stage opener.
PSG’s victory had come at a cost though. Mauro Icardi linked Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappé on the sidelines due to injury, leaving Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting to lead the line alongside Neymar, back in the starting line-up after serving the first match of his two-game European ban.
Wednesday’s two-goal hero, Angel Di Maria. He nearly continued that streak inside two minutes, charging down an Anthony Lopes clearance and he was sad to see the ball ricochet wide (2′).
